CIEL

Nero Burning ROM Ultimate edition or what ever the pay edition is called comes with a handy disk backup wizard. Otherwise the old standard for doing backups for hard drives, OS and all is called Norton Ghost. It's made by Symantec i believe.

if your computer came with a backup partition dont touch it. its what your recovery disk uses just in case you need to reinstall windows.

LEIGH

If you have vista premium you can make a backup of your disc. Use the help file in the start/icon. Sorry cant be more help but I done this ages ago now, and cant really remember. If you want to back up your files, start/programs/accessories/system tools/back up status and configuration.

SHEL

You may want to call Apple, but I am not aware of any way that you can install programs onto your Mac WITHOUT the startup disk. In the future, I would recommend an external hard drive, using the time machine application.

HAMMOND

I have an adapter called an EZ-connect (got it at Fry's electronics) It will connect the Laptop hard drive to your computer via the USB port, so the data can be copied.
I think it cost less than $20.

KALEY

I have a feeling that technician thought you had a desktop instead of a laptop. ether that or he forgot laptops only hold one hard drive.

however you can still do this by using an external hard drive enclousre that can allow your hard drive to connect to the computer via usb port (or firewire or Esata if you have those ports)

Most desktop hard drive use 3.5" sata drives and most laptop hard drives use 2.5" sata hard drives

I think you should use online backup software...I can suggest Memopal, ...it's easy, save your files in real time and automatically...I use Memopal and it's a very useful tool.
