My best guess is that it is legit, but, Backweb sometimes slows the computer down some with all it&#039;s online hidden updates.

These are usually installed with a new computer bundled with the new software package. The updates it&#039;s referring to are the updates to programs that you may or may not be using.

Backweb usually &#039;phones home&#039; with the details of the currently installed software. I always remove &#039;backweb&#039; and if an update is necessary, I do it manually.
