A spreadsheet is more suitable because you can use pivot tables and charts to quickly compare the data whereas a database would require the creation of reports in order to look at the data in a meaningful way.

A spreadsheet has functions and mathamatical capabilities. These are usefull for calculating percentages, and doing what if calculations.
A database stores data, and presents different views of the data. It is not really designed for doing calculations based upon the data.
With a bit of work, you can use the spreadsheet to analyze the data in your database.
